Commonly referred to as a “Hookes Joint” but can also be known as exposed apex joint, uni joint, shifter joint or apex joint.
This is a non-sealed joint that is often found in various systems such as open wheel racecar gear linkages, remote starter motor shafts, steering systems and various other motorsport and fabrication applications.
This hookes joint has different sized female bores on each end. One side is 1/2inch and the other is 5/8inch.
These joints can be welded to a steel shaft or simply drilled and bolted through.
If using multiple joints on a single linkage, keep in mind yoke phasing (keeping them in correct phase to each other) to ensure smooth operation and longevity.
